Unlike life on Earth, sound is a constant, essential feature of the universe. It was here before us and will undoubtedly outlast us. When you tune a TV and can see white noise flickering on its screen, you are partly seeing and hearing background radiation from the Big Bang. After 13.7 billion years, it’s still echoing through the space it created. Since sound exceeds the human scale, attempts to impose concepts of musical form upon it are ultimately futile. Still, if a Metal Machine Music era Lou Reed and The Ramones had got together, maybe it would have sounded like this track.
